February 26th

Well, just a few things....

Tuesday night I attended a breastfeeding class and that is bringing me a little closer to the decision to breastfeed.

Last night, some friends from church gave us 6 bags of baby clothes! What a blessing! Today I going through those.

DS, "T" and I both have colds, coughs, and congestion. Please pray that we will get better and our other family members don't get it.

Breastfeeding vs. Bottlefeeding

First off, I am not placing this post here to cause a debate. I am genuinely interested in your responses.

I am due with our 4th child who is due in April. I bottlefed our first 3 but I am "on the fence" about my decision to breastfeed or bottlefeed with this new little one.

My reasons would be for bottlefeeding:
1) It is not really that inconvenient to bottlefeed
2)My bottlefed children turned out just fine
3) My children were easy to wean from the bottle
4)Dh and my other children can help
5) Afraid of cracked nipples or mastitis from breastfeeding
6) Afraid that I won't be able to easily wean baby from breastfeeding

My reasons for breastfeeding:
1)Loving bond with baby
2)ready to feed baby on demand
3)Helps to prevent breast and other cancers(which I am concerned about because my mom and grandma are breast cancer survivors)
4)I would like to try because I felt like I missed out on this special bond with the first 3. The women in my family never breastfed(so I wasn't encouraged but I wasn't DIS-couraged either) and I wasn't educated about it.
5) I will have lots of support from friends now.
6) My dh is even encouraging me.
7) Afraid of the possibility of a formula shortage.

What are your reasons for one or the other?

February 22nd

Yesterday was my baby shower(along with 2 other moms) at church. It was put on by the ladies of my church.Chili, cornbread muffins, salad, punch and cake were served. The cake was delicious! We played 3 games then opened gifts. We got many gifts but still have a bit more to buy because not many used the registry.
I also picked up the baby book that I ordered from Barnes and Noble. It's a Suzy's Zoo one. It's very cute. While we were there, we all got Starbucks, too. We haven't had Starbucks in a very long time.(And we have 5 in this town all within minutes of each other!)
I made a lemon pie yesterday and I could've eaten the whole thing myself so I'm glad the rest of my family was here to share it.I am wanting to eat healthier but pie is one of my weaknesses.
This pregnancy sure is wearing me out.I slept in today and still took a 2 hour nap this afternoon.
I really hope that I can get our room prepared this week because the crib is supposed to be in this week.Yay! I am looking forward to setting it up and patiently waiting for our little one to arrive.

~Happy Valentine's Day~

Last night, my dh and I attended the Valentine's Day banquet at our church. It was catered by a gourmet chef. My dh had Pacific chowder and stuffed pork loin. I had squash bisque and chicken breast stuffed with brandied apricots and cilantro along with vegetables. For dessert, we had a 4 chocolate brownie with walnuts topped with whipped topping. There was also a chocolate fountain for dipping cherries, strawberries and pineapple. For a door prize, we chose a 4-pack of heart shaped candles.

For Valentine's Day, I gave dh a card and a package of Reese's peanut butter hearts. He got me a relaxation CD to use for the labor/delivery.

Today, my dh and oldest ds, "B" are working at the gun show. They won't be home too late though so we can enjoy Valentine's Day together. I am going to make those infamous chocolate chip cookies today because our family loves them.

I am also going to be cleaning and organizing today. I am really beginning to feel the nesting instinct although it seems to be a bit early.

Time to get real with our health

Yes, yes I know....that I have been posting delicious recipes on my blog but in reality they(most of them) are definitely not healthy and this is the way our family eats all the time unfortunately.

We are just falling apart. We need to do something now. I have a variety of medical problems. Our ds, "T" is diabetic and my dh has degenerative joint disease. I am wondering if we should begin eating organic or maybe try something else.Any thoughts? Book or website recommendations?

February 7th

Last night, dh was a chaperone for an overnight stay at a church function. I was happy to see him home this morning. Today, we went to the thrift store so I could find something to wear to the sweetheart banquet next weekend. I wanted to find a skirt or dress but choices are limited when you are pregnant. So, I ended up with khaki pants and a long sleeve black and green patterned shirt with an attached black camisole. Also, "T" has been asking for a piggy bank this past week and what do you know?....we found one in blue there for $1.99. He was happy.
We also went to Sears to pick out the baby outfits. It was fun shopping for these. We also got a raincheck for the stroller/car seat combo they had on sale. This one will be almost $60 cheaper than the one we were planning on getting at Wal-Mart.Who would've thought Sears would be cheaper?
Tonight, I made a simple supper. I cooked chicken breasts with BBQ sauce poured over the top in the crockpot, then shredded it and put it on buns and we had macaroni salad and potato salad.
Dh commented that we should have the chicken sandwiches again sometime. I agree. Simple and yummy!
I need to come up with more simple ideas. I just haven't felt like making big meals lately since I'm tired and aching with this pregnancy. I could also use the ideas for when the baby arrives.Any simple recipes to share?

February 6th

Dh, me, and our kids got to tour the birthing center last night.(I think I was the oldest mom there but that's okay. The funny thing is I was the one asking the most questions.) I am only just a little over 10 weeks away from my due date and being there last night made it all seem even more real.We are so excited to meet our new little one. We are still awaiting news to see if we have a pre-approval for a home loan or not. It will be okay one way or another. Sure, it would be great to move into our own bigger place but I am content here, too. We can make it work.

The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe EVER!

Since discovering this recipe about a year or two ago, I use no other.

2/3 C. shortening
1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 egg
1t. vanilla
1 1/2C. flour
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 pkg. chocolate chips(I recentlyused half semi-sweet chocolate chips and half chocolate chunks and they were wonderful)
Mix together shortening, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Mix well.
Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE and these will be perfect!
This recipe can be easily doubled.

Enjoy!

Our weekend

On Friday, I had my OB check-up and the NP said that the heartbeat is in the 140's and she also ordered some bloodwork for checking liver function because I told her about my gallstones. Please pray that I don't have any more problems.

I also found out that the church ladies are going to be giving me a baby shower so we registered at a couple of places here. This is so neat because this is my FOURTH child and my FIRST baby shower!

We took all 3 of our cats back because they were giving us trouble and also because I just don't want to have cats around the new baby. We are especially going to miss our "Milo" because we have had him since 2006.

We went to church yesterday and then the rest of the family went to different superbowl parties and I stayed home.... and took a nap!

When everybody was home, we watched "Fireproof". Dh and I enjoyed it.
